My passion for sport and fitness began at primary school - I joined an athletics club at 11 and eventually competed for Wales at distances from 800 metres to 10 miles. At university - where I gained an honours degree in sports science and a postgraduate degree in nutrition - I began writing a monthly column for Today's Runner magazine.
My first 'proper' jobs in journalism were at Athletics Today and Rugby World magazines. Since then my work has appeared in a range of publications (see 'appeared in' below) and I have broadcast widely on TV and radio (see 'appeared on' below). I've also written five books on health and fitness and am a member of the Guild of Health Writers and the Medical Journalists' Association.
Trying to practice what I preach, I still run regularly - albeit at a sedate pace, have completed five marathons (one on roller skates) and have taken part in sports ranging from underwater hockey to the World Indoor Rowing Championships. With a UK Athletics coaching qualification I now lead running groups for beginners - come and join in if you are in the area (click here).

For nine years I was nutrition editor of Runner's World magazine and was the editor of Total Fitness magazine. My sports column appeared in the Guardian for four years and I currently write a weekly fitness column in The Times. I'm the contributing editor for Women's Running magazine and write fitness news for the Daily Mail. Click here to see some of my articles.
For four years I presented health and beauty items on GMTV's LK Today programme and have appeared on Channel 4 News, London Tonight, BBC Breakfast and Sky News. I've also been heard on BBC radio stations 1,2, 4 and 5 as well as Talk Sport, Capital Radio and numerous local stations.
