If you live in the Marlow (Buckinghamshire) or Cookham (Berkshire) area, why not come along to one of my weekly running groups? Under the umbrella of the Run England scheme, the aim is to encourage beginners and returning runners to find their feet and take off along local footpaths and trails.
With the emphasis on fitness and fun, the runs are highly sociable - we often meet for coffee and cakes in the local deli after a run - and not intended for greyhounds in Lycra who like to race along to the beep of a heart rate monitor.
Cookham Running Club currently meets on Saturdays at 9.00am and on Tuesdays at 7pm from at Station Hill Deli. Contact me for more information about the running club or check check us out on Twitter @cookhamrunning.
MARATHON runners can avoid hitting the wall by applying a complicated mathematical equation to their carbohydrate intake. In a report published in the journal PLoS Computational Biology, the Harvard University scientist Benjamin Rapport says that a runner who works out precisely how much carbohydrate they need to fuel their efforts can avoid hitting the wall.
